Lack of self-belief plays a huge role in many people’s lives, because it can stand in the way of personal development and sits at the root of many feelings of failure. Joanna works with people to identify those self-beliefs and convictions and explore them, so that together you can see what is preventing them from moving towards their goals.
Many people feel at one time or another that their life is not under their control - their employer determines how they spend their working life and their family determines how they spend their social life. We all have multiple roles, and struggle to find balance. Our home and working lives are chock full of activity, making it tough to find and maintain a decent work/life balance. We face difficult lifestyle choices at every turn and, on top of it all, may have to consider things like stopping smoking, going on a diet and getting fit.
Life coaching can help to find a path through such challenges by helping you to work out what really matters and make choices which satisfy your needs and wishes and lead to a more satisfying life.
Making conscious choices means that you need to identify them and also realise that every choice has a consequence - and so does not making the choice. For example, not all families are harmonious, and one person may dislike his or her partner’s family. The cost of refusing to visit them might be to upset their partner. But a compromise, such as limiting the number of times the ‘reluctant’ partner visits, may produce a win-win outcome. Coaching can help people to consider alternative choices, understand them and thus take positive and beneficial action.
Even when a choice is enforced, the decision must still be a considered one. A difficult home situation might lead to a view that a relationship has run its course. Standing back and analysing all the options and consequences and exploring different scenarios with an impartial coach can be a positive experience. Whether you find ways of making the relationship a more satisfying one for all concerned or decide to make a fresh start, the decision is a reasoned one rather than impulsive and driven by circumstance.
Everybody has choices, and one of those choices is to create more choices. For example, someone who is unhappy at work can feel forced into a choice between staying in an undesired role and leaving the company. Coaching can help you analyse the different tasks that make up your working day and identify those you particularly enjoy. Doing so creates new options, as you can consciously develop your skills in those areas and later negotiate ways of spending more of your time doing those tasks, or creating a new role which uses these new skills for the advantage of your company.
